With today’s technology, you can now verify your PayPal account even when you don’t have a bank account or a credit/debit card (initially; well, we’ll get to that later on). All you need to have is a Philippine mobile number! Yes, you read that right! If you want to know how to do so, then keep on reading.
Last 2015, the app “Paymaya” has been launched. Paymaya is basically an app that provides you a virtual prepaid Visa/Mastercard, depending on your mobile number. [Paymaya is directly associated with Smart Communications, but worry not, since Globe Network users can also use their numbers for Paymaya; in other words, both Smart and Globe Network users (and other affiliated Philippine mobile number networks, e.g., TnT, Sun Cellular, etc.) can use Paymaya]. As such, this is especially useful to PayPal users who seek to verify their accounts and withdraw their funds even without having a bank account or a physical credit/debit card.
To get started, please follow the steps provided by Paymaya: click here!
(I commend Paymaya for their detailed, easy-to-follow steps in setting up your Paymaya account. Kudos to Paymaya!)
Verify your PayPal account
After you have downloaded and set up your Paymaya account, you can now link your PayPal account and start the verification process; just follow these simple steps. For more detailed instructions, click here.
- In some cases, the PayPal code will not be provided right after linking the Paymaya card. You will then have to authorize PayPal to send you a code; follow these steps.
- You should receive an SMS informing you of your PayPal code; the code looks like this – PayPal*1234CODE or PP*1234CODE.
- Confirm your card by entering your 4-digit code. In the example above, enter “1234.”
- After the confirmation, you should receive another SMS informing you of the refunded money from PayPal. And that’s about it; your PayPal account is now verified! ;)
Withdraw your funds
Before you can enjoy your hard-earned money on your hands, you will have to transfer your funds from your PayPal account to your Paymaya account first. Click here for the steps.
- Note that you will have to buy a Physical Card worth Php 150 first to withdraw funds from your Paymaya account. You can buy it here. What’s awesome about this physical card is that you can use it for purchasing or paying bills in stores accepting Visa/Mastercards. It’s like having a “credit card” instantly without having to apply for it in banks.
- After receiving your physical card, link the account number in your Paymaya app.
- Upgrade your Paymaya account by doing these steps.
- You can now use your physical card to withdraw from ATMs here in the Philippines and abroad.

Quick Notes:
- You do not have to buy a physical card and upgrade your Paymaya account if you only plan to verify your PayPal account.
- As opposed to other PayPal accounts using bank accounts and other Visa/Mastercards (not Paymaya cards) for verification, you can easily use your PayPal account for buying online or sending funds to others with the amount loaded in your Paymaya account (even if you have no funds appearing in your PayPal account, you can still use it for such, since PayPal will directly use your loaded amount in your Paymaya account).
